laser pointer sets sights on region |
Red-i Laser has had Dubai 2001
in its sights for some time. Now it's exhibiting in the
region for the first time.
The South African precision instrument specialist has
its innovative laser bore sights on show. It hopes to
confirm distribution deals in the region in the near
future, says managing director Johann van Huyssteen. "This
is the first time we've displayed at a military show," he
says. "We have no customers in this region at present.
But I believe the products we've developed, sights that
are both training tools and sight-setting equipment,
are ideal for a multitude of applications."
Shaped like a round of ammunition, Red-i is a battery-powdered
laser pointer which is activated when pushed into the chamber
of a variety of calibre small arms.
It has been aimed primarily at a
commercial market and found fans in the hunting community.
Daan Guillaume, designer
of the Red-i explains that he is now preparing for military
specification. "We've already developed the full range
from 5.56mm through to medium calibre 35mm and lately even
40mm grenade-launcher ammunition," says Guillaume.
